Jews in the west Siberian city of Omsk marked a momentous occasion: the “last bell” for the first graduating class of the Ohr Avner Chabad Day School. The sounding of the “last bell” marks the end of the school year for all students, but also the graduation and commencement of a new direction for the eleventh-graders. The graduation celebration was chaired by the school’s principal Ms. Oksana Scherbak and began with the Russian national anthem.
Chief Rabbi of Omsk Osher Krichevsky, who also serves as a Chabad-Lubavitch emissary in the region, gave the keynote address at the ceremony.
“You will always be our very first graduates and will remain an integral part of our community,” the rabbi stated reassuringly.
